ABOUT THE TRAINER
​
Maria Isabel Bonilla Uribe was born in the lush, tropical city of Cali, Colombia. From a very young age she always sought out the company of animals, and was hoping to become a veterinarian one day.
She decided to start taking riding lessons at an English barn to become a jumper.
She competed for a few years in the local circuit. Eventually, she graduated from high school and moved
to Bogotá (Colombia’s capital) to pursue degrees in Fine Arts, Illustration and Design. She worked as
a pony club riding instructor, as a rider in an agricultural theme park and as an assistant trainer at an international Quarter Horse barn.
Isabel left the country when she was awarded a scholarship to Rocky Mountain College to study in their Equestrian Program. She graduated with honors and worked at several barns honing her skills. But her
final ambition was always to have her own business starting colts using her own methods. Her business Blue Mare Equestrian Services finally came to life in 2023.
Since she’s been exposed to all kinds of colts, horses and clients with vastly different backgrounds and training levels, which have helped her to continue expanding her equestrian and business skillset. She’s been permanently hungry for more education, devouring books, networking with other trainers, completing horsemanship courses and attending as many clinics as she can as an auditor. She currently lives in Billings, Montana, where she works as a full time horse trainer, animal caretaker and artist with her other business Blue Jaguar Art.

a promising future.As an international horsewoman, I harbor a deep passion for creating a harmonious, lasting bond between human and horse using ethical, humane training methods based on trust, empathy and consistency.

Blue Mare Equestrian Services specializes in on-site horse training, colt starting, horsemanship lessons, equine marketing, tack detailing and
ranch/pet sitting. The owner Maria Isabel Bonilla, is an international horsewoman with a deep passion for proper horsemanship, diverse life-long learning and creating a better life for horses and their humans.
VISION
Blue Mare Equestrian Services strives to create lasting bonds between humans and horses based on trust, empathy and compassion using humane, science-based methods. We aim to offer affordable, high-quality, equestrian and animal care services in Billings and surrounding areas.
